2.Where were you born/raised?

3.What was your family composition? How many siblings?

4.Were your parents married? Did they ever divorce?

5.What is your highest level of education?

6.What is the biggest difference about families now, as opposed to when you were being raised?

7.What do you think today’s families are lacking?

8.What were your parents’ roles in your household?

9.Was the community (neighbors, church, schools, etc.) more involved in the raising of families/children in your day? How so?

11.Are you involved in any activities?

12.What could society do to better support you as you age?

13.If you had to offer me one piece of advice about life, what would it be?

Answers:

1.I am 69 years of age.

3.I was born and raised in rural Adams County-Natchez- Mississippi.

4.My family was composed of my father, mother, and 12 siblings. My siblings were six brothers and six sisters.

5.My parents were married and never divorced.

6.My highest level of education is graduate school.

7.The biggest differences about families now as opposed to when I was raised are we had both parents in the home, better discipline for the children, and more interest in our education.

8.Families today mostly live in single parent homes, parents and children are almost the same age, not much emphasis on education, and lack of good discipline in the home.

9.My dad had a public job as a barber and also worked on the family farm. Mother had to care for the children, cook, clean, sew, and work on the farm.

10.The entire community was involved in all aspects of our life. The community was concerned about the outcome of those among us.

11.I do not have any regrets about my family life.

12.Yes, I am involved in a few activities.

13.Society can better help me as I age by making sure my necessities of life are more affordable.

14.Make your family first over anything else in all aspects.

I like question 3, 4, 6, and 7 as it could compare African American families during her time to those today?
