Compare and Contrast Essay
Drawn from the readings on Malcolm X and Dr Martin Luther King Jr, your essay will compare and contrast the actions / philosophies / methodologies / goals of these two civil rights leaders while addressing specific issues of both men with regard to their use of civil disobedience as a form of non-violent protest and their individual powers of rhetoric to galvanize their respective movements. Your essay will be in APA format (at least five pages of: cover page, essay text with in-text citations, and a final page of sources), based on class readings, class discussion, and is likely to require additional independent research to support your points of comparison and contrast.
Compare and contrast writing analyzes similarities and differences. Students are exposed to a wider variety of writing structures as they learn the classical organizational patterns of block arrangement vs. point by point. The essay will be 3-4 pages, double-spaced in 12pt font, have a clear thesis, introduction, body, and conclusion. Descriptions will be supported with examples, testimony, and quotes, using APA format (for both format and citations). The essay will be graded with the Dialogues Written Communication Grading Rubric.
