What is a persuasive essay?

Write a persuasive speech supporting your opinion about an issue or subject that matters to you, or that you feel passionately about. Include these elements:

Paragraph 1 – Introduction

Gives a brief overview of your topic, including your opinion on the issue. The last sentence in your first paragraph should act as your thesis statement. It should state exactly what the remainder of your persuasive essay is going to be about.

Paragraph 2 – Evidence #1

Give evidence from research to support one of your ideas/opinion on this topic. (The source of this evidence needs to be cited at the end of your essay. (see below)

Paragraph 3 – Evidence #2

Give evidence from research to support another one of your ideas/opinions on this topic. (The source of this evidence needs to be cited at the end of your essay. (see below)

Paragraph 4 – Counter-argument

This paragraph tells about the other side of the main issue and tells why your opinion is better.

Paragraph 5 Conclusion

Your conclusion summarizes all the information above and restates your opinion.
