Discussion

Charge: We all know that M. Meursault is guilty of killing a man on the beach. But this is not what this trial is all about. The charge we are concerned with is not murder but whether or not M. Meursault is evil.

As a Juror, having read a transcript of the trial and events that led up to the tragic events in the story, deliberate over the following issues with your fellow jurors:

  1. Is Meursault really a threat to his society?
  2. Does Meursault deserve the death penalty?
  3. Is Meursault more or less dangerous than a criminal who commits a crime with clear motive?

Post your thoughts and comments to all the above questions.
