The Decision to Drop the Bomb
Write an essay that discusses the reasons why President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. Consider the culture at that time and the following questions as you write your essay:
- What were some of the arguments for and against the decision?
- How have historians differed on their interpretation of the decision?
- How might the culture of the U.S. have affected the decision to drop the bomb?
- In your view, what eventually led Truman to make up his mind?
The paper should be three to five pages long (not including title or reference pages), double-spaced, written according to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA, and should include a minimum of three sources (at least two peer-reviewed references besides the textbook). The introductory paragraph should include a thesis statement.
