Sexism in the Workforce
Before posting to the Discussion Board, complete the activity below, which will help you discover how gender plays a role in the contemporary workplace; it will also help you to strategize ways in which to reduce unconscious biases. Using the activity you just completed, answer the following questions:
- How many of the characteristics that you came up with for your gender-neutral leader are masculine?
- How many are feminine?
- What does this tell you about our perceptions of who can fit the role of a leader?
Also, share your thoughts on how unconscious biases may affect the hiring, promotion, and management process for people of both genders (e.g., opportunities given, training received, assumptions made about time availability, etc.).
