Imagine that you have been awarded a multi-million dollar National Endowment for the Arts grant to create a Christo-like work of art. (Of course, since the NEA is getting more and more notoriously conservative, and arts & humanities budgets are being slashed across the board, this would never actually happen. And Christo’swork is 100% funded by the artist himself, anyway. But let’s just pretend.)
What would you choose to design and construct? What would you wrap? What would it be wrapped in? Why would you choose this project? What message would you hope viewers might take away after seeing your artwork? How would you go about actually constructing your Christo-like work? And would you consider your work to be sculpture? Architecture? Both? Neither?
