Read the following quotes. Choose one or more of the quotes that you feel most closely represent your attitude, approach, evaluation, and interaction with art. In essay format, explain why you chose the quote or quotes that you did, and how each one illustrates your feelings about art. Your answer should be at least one word-processed (double-spaced) page in length, and you should include at least three specific examples of art to illustrate and support your argument. (You may choose your examples from any of the genres of art we’ve studied this semester: painting, sculpture, architecture, environmental art, literature, drama, music, dance, film, photography.) Please remember to use specificexamples, and to show how these examples support your answer. By “specific example,” I mean that you need to refer to an individual work of art, rather than a genre. In other words, you will need to refer to Monet’s Waterlilies, rather than to painting in general. In the past, the primary cause of failing scores on the final exam has been the failure to use specific examples as support for the answers–so consider yourself fore-warned!
You may choose different quotes for different parts of your answer. For example, one quote may show how you feel about art as a spectator, while another might show how you approach art as an artist. Or you might choose different quotes to discuss your approach to defining art and evaluating art.
