Plato’s Republic (city)
In Book IV of Plato’s Republic, Socrates argues that justice in the city “is that each person must practice one of the pursuits of the city, the one for which he is naturally best-suited” (433a, 381). Is Socrates right that this is necessary for the success of a city like the one he describes and that this could be regarded as justice? Why or why not? Be sure to explain how Socrates makes his case for justice in the city by distinguishing it from knowledge, courage, and temperance.
