Piracy and the Law of the Sea

Answer one of the following questions below in a minimum of 300 words in apa format with at least 2 references and they must be cited in the paper

 

 

1) Given the current situation in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea please describe how you think the International Community should secure the shipping lanes and where the assets to do so would be stationed or suggest alternative routes that could be used instead of this critical seaway for world commerce (check a map to construct your answer). Also what is the best way to handle the situation? Should navies continue to patrol the area or should shipping companies hire private armed security? What are the pro’s and con’s of of each? (2)Do you think the U.S. should ratify the 1982 Draft Convention on the Law of the Sea? Also remember your answer and references when you answer one of the essay questions about treasure salvaging for Week 3. State your reasoning.
By the way I could not download the entire UNCLOS Treaty into the course materials folder (it’s too big a document. It was written by lawyers go figure). So the best thing is to find an article about why the US didn’t sign it and work from there.
