1 – Neurotransmission Presentation

Create a 12-15-slide PowerPoint Presentation about the way drugs affect the brain. Include the following in your presentation:

1. Title slide
2. A description of the effects of addiction on the components of the central nervous system and other organs
3. A description of the process of neurotransmission
4. Detailed speaker notes that include what would be said if giving the presentation in person
5. At least 1-2 scholarly sources per slide
6. References slide

2 – Nicotine Public Service Announcement

For this part of the assignment, you will create a public service announcement (PSA) against the use of nicotine.

Write a one-page memo of 500 words or more against the use of nicotine that could be sent to employees of a large corporation. Include the following in the memo:

1. A description of the adverse effects of nicotine on the body
2. At least one available resource for person’s wanting to quit smoking
3. Follow standard memo formatting and include an opening and closing.

2. Discuss the need for crisis management when working with a client.
3. What is the assessment process for identifying addictive disorders?
4. What considerations must be made for choosing an appropriate assessment tool?
5. A general overview of the substance use disorder criteria according to the DSM
6. A discussion about the potential problems that can arise when a counselor relies solely on the diagnostic criteria listed in the DSM for treatment planning
7. Include at least two examples of commonly used substance use disorder assessment tools.
8. Include a minimum of one to two scholarly sources per section in addition to the textbook.

1. A brief description of common empirically researched substance use disorder treatments listed in the topics readings such as (MI, CBT, and SF). Include a minimum of two treatment descriptions.
2. A discussion about the differences of each treatment listed.
3. A discussion about which method you would prefer to use and why.
4. A list of professionals who may be involved in treatment, their role, and how you would coordinate treatment with them.
5. A minimum of two scholarly sources per section.
