New Challenges Facing State Government

In recent years a broad range of policy challenges have confronted state governments throughout the nation.  Recession and its impact on state government finance have weakened the states’ capacities to address these challenges.  Examine some of the most serious challenges facing the state in which you reside or a state which you are familiar with.  Visit the Pew Center on the States’ webpage titled Stateline Headlines.

Under “Browse Headlines” select your state.  Then using the “Find by Issue” function, research relevant articles for three different issues that pose significant challenges for your state.  In your initial post, discuss how these issues are impacting your state and why.  Also discuss the capacity of your state’s government to effectively address these issues.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.
