For this essay, you will write a brief overview of the history of the MPAA, specifically the history of their attempts to apply ratings to movies; both pre- and post-1968. Why did the MPAA get involved in rating movies? What kind of criteria has been used in the past and/or used today to evaluate movies that a put through the process? Who has gotten to/gets to decide the criteria? Is the ratings system political? Moral? Religious? Whose politics? Whose morals? Whose religion?
