Introduction to Critical Thinking
Assignment Details:
Write a 1-2 page-paper (Single-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins) demonstrating your ability to apply some of the skills you have learned in class on the following topic:
Logical Fallacies – find a current event that illustrates a logical fallacy (See chapter 5 of your textbook for more on logical fallacies). This can be either an Informal Fallacy or a Formal Fallacy.
- Include a newspaper clipping / link to the current event you will discuss.
- Give a brief recap of the event, then carefully explain how it illustrates the fallacy in question.
- This will require that you clearly and accurately define the fallacy and its relationship to the event you chose.
- Finish by offering a brief reflection on whether training in logic may or may not aid one in identifying good and bad arguments in their everyday life. (Note: you do not need to say that logic is helpful in order to get a good grade on your assignment! I’m grading for accuracy, thoughtful reflection, and an ability to express your points well, not for agreement with me or praise for logic.)
