I believe that Christianity plays a role regarding social justice in our society and community. It stems from the development from the laws of the Old Testament and the combined version of the New Testament. During the times when Jesus traveled, he shared the gospel and served as an advocate to the poor, troubled and mistreated people. The Holy Bible states “He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor” (Proverbs 14:31, King James Version). Today, we do have those same principles and more groups forming fighting for their rights and for the rights of others. The New Testament, when formed, focused on loving thy neighbor and loving God with your heart bearing in mind that showing your love came from the acts of the individual. By actively seeking justice for the right purpose doesn’t make it wrong. I can remember for some time now that it seemed the term “to each their own” was literally every man for himself and us as human beings had become separated amongst each other showing lack of unity. The human mentality had become “turning a blind eye” to those things not affecting one self. As the times progressed and changed, people are taking the initiative to voice their opinions on the issues that are morally wrong and serve a purpose for those in need of justice. The Holy Bible states “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” (Philippians 2:4, King James Version). If anything, I think that if Jesus fought for it back in the Old Testament days then those same causes correlated to the gospel.
