Essay Topic for week 7: What is nativism? John Higham described a three-dimensional definition of nativism. What are the three dimensions? What ethnic group was a target of nativism in 1750s Philadelphia and what was this group accused of? In a quote provided by B. Franklin’s writings; what did he think of English as opposed to other Europeans? Is nativism recurrent in our American society? Which ethnic group, according to published evidence, is most likely targeted today?
