For the first essay, students will explore how a single moral has been taught by different texts. The essay will include references to and quotes from one Grimm fairy tale, and from two of the following course readings: Matthew 5-7, Sermon at Benares, Bhagavad Gita, or Plato’s Crito.

Research Process Step 1: Synthesis writing is a written discussion that draws on one or more sources. In an academic synthesis, you make explicit the relationships that you have inferred among separate sources. Go beyond summary to make judgments – judgments based, of course, on critical reading of the sources. Go beyond the critique of individual sources to determine the relationship among them.

Recommended length: 4-5 pages, double-spaced in 12pt font. APA Format.

I have filled out and outline of the paper it is attached below. The paper needs to talk about matthew 5-7 and Sermon at Benares (buddha) and the fairy tail of bearskin please read them. and follow the outline to do the paper.

below is the comments the teacher left about the outline.

Attention getter: Good start. Expand. Thesis: fine. Use “Quotation Marks” and Title Caps for the fairy tale title. Preview: Don’t go into detail here. Just use the formula provided in the sample outline.

II: Avoid making up your own definitions. Do some research in reliable sources and cite them in-text. The example is good. Feel free to go in more depth here: you displayed self-control while your uncle did not.

III: Make sure you explain how the fairy tale teaches the moral. Then embed the quote and cite properly. Explain what the quote means to the reader, rather than repeating portions of it. It is not clear if you are arguing that the soldier displayed self-control. If so, how? Isn’t it a bad idea to make a deal with the devil?

IV: Good use of Matthew 5. Nice quotes. Embed them properly and cite. Re-read the second quote carefully so you get the full meaning. Good job leading it back to self-control.

Synthesis portion: Think about this more deeply. Would Jesus approve of the soldier’s deal with the devil? Does the soldier follow Jesus’s rules?

V: Nice quote from Buddha. Make sure you link it back to self-control. I think you can find quotes that more easily link to self-control: about indulgence and craving etc.
