The paper must meet following requirements:

• Must be submitted either as Microsoft Word documents, Open Office files, or text files. No other file format will be accepted.
• Must be relatively free of grammar, spelling and punctuation errors. Papers with multiple problems in this area will suffer a significant grade deduction.

Think of someone you interact with on a fairly regular basis who communicates in a distinctly different way from you. Your perception of this person has a direct impact on how you communicate with this person. So, this paper is about pushing you out of your comfort zone and forcing you to communicate with someone who you feel is your opposite in some way. Examples could be an introvert – extrovert, immigrant – native born, boss – employee, democrat – republican or you can focus more on behavioral aspects such as a personal trainer – couch potato, technology enthusiast – technology phobic, or classical music lover – heavy rock lover. Your “opposite” must truly be perceived as someone who is your opposite in a pronounced way.

*****This paper has three distinct parts:

Part One: Explain why you chose this person. What is your perception of this person before your interview? Explain. (Minimum 500 words)

Part Two: Create 20 questions for this person to answer. These questions should focus on what makes them your opposite in regards to communication. This is your attempt to understand why they communicate the way that they do. For instance, a Republican might ask a Democrat what s/he likes best about our current President’s communication style. Your paper should include your twenty questions and the answers, included in clearly numbered Q&A format and quoted as closely as possible (knowing you may miss a word here or there). Just stating the answers without the questions will result in a grade deduction. Your questions should all be directly related to communication. You’ll lose points if you focus on other things instead.

Part Three: Reflect on the interview and share how your perception has changed after interviewing this person. Is this person still your opposite? Why or why not? (Minimum 500 words)

*****Your questions for your “opposite” must be related to communication. Here are some examples that you are welcome to use. You are not required to use these questions, but your questions should be similar in approach to these questions. If you have ANY questions about how to write questions, PLEASE ask your instructor.

• What do you consider your communication strength?
• What do you consider your communication weakness?
• Who is your communication role model? (This is someone that you wish to emulate when it comes to his/her communication skills.)
• What is your communication pet peeve?
• What medium of communication works best for you? (Be prepared to define the word medium, based on what you’ve learned in chapter 1 of your textbook!)
• What kind of noise distracts you the most when you are trying to have a conversation? (Remember to explain noise based on what you’ve learned in chapter one!)
• What is a common communication problem that you face?

*A minimum of 20 questions is required!
