Choose a person (real or fictional) to write about

Step 1: Choose a person (real or fictional) to write about. This can be a celebrity, TV show character, movie character, book character, athlete, etc. This person can come from any country or culture and does not need to be known in the United States. As long as your choice is a person, you are good to go!

Step 2: Write about this person using the following guidelines. Your paper should be 600 to 800 words total (typed, single spaces, size 12 Times New Roman or Arial font) and include:

  • A brief summary (4-6 sentences) of your person. Provide a brief background about this person so I have context if I am not familiar with him/her.
  • A plan for changing a behavior this person might like to see either increase or decrease using the principles of operant conditioning (Chapter 8). Make sure you answer the following questions:
  • Describe what kind of parenting style you think your person would have and why using relevant examples of their behaviors (Chapter 11). Be sure to provide evidence that corresponds with the parenting style you chose (authoritative, indulgent, authoritarian, or uninvolved). I will NOT be grading on my own opinion of this person; only on whether or not your evidence backs up your claim.
  • Describe which ONE of the Big Five core personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) you think best describes your person and why (Chapter 12). Be sure to provide examples of their behavior that led you to choose this personality trait. Again, I will NOT be grading on my own opinion of this person.
  • What is the behavior that you are targeting?
  • Will the behavior be reinforced or punished?
  • Will you be using positive reinforcement/punishment or negative reinforcement/punishment?
  • What will be the schedule of reinforcement?
