Social roles that are expected by societal perception of which gender we are can be decided very early in our life. Girls are expected to play with dolls and cook, while boys played with trucks and mowed the lawn. In fact, would it surprise you that gender roles are reinforced even in school by teachers. In the mid l900’s. it may have been the prevalent assumption that females were poor at math compared to males. So during math classes, teachers were more likely to help and encourage male students while ignoring female students. We know now that female students are just as good in math as boys and should be encouraged equally. However a study recently showed that even now, female teachers are more likely to call on boys more often than female students. The math biases still remains. How do you think this can be changed?
