The National Society of Professional Engineers Code of Ethics states, in part, “The services provided by engineers . . . must be dedicated to the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.” To what extent, during the past century or so, has the work of engineers (and scientists) met (or fallen short) of serving or protecting “the public health, safety, and welfare”?
