Business Profile

Business Profile

Project Two: Business Profile

My discipline: Information Technology
Goal
Project 2 is looking closely at one business, organization, or association. Although it a basic business profile, in which you present elements of a functioning business, this close examination of an organization within your field should help you to think about and realize issues that may affect businesses and organizations—in a specific business or in business as a field.

Directions

Read current events and see what happening within your field. Find out what businesses, organizations, and/or associations connect to your discipline or field of study. Choose one business, organization, or association to use for this project.

Write a paper or “profile” on a business, organization, or association. To create this profile, you will research and gather pertinent business information. Be sure to include the following in your profile:

I. Introduction & Background & Business Foundation:
Introduce the business or organization.
Explain the history and age of the organization.

Explain the staffing structure and types of employees/industries they have.

II. Identity & Reputation

Describe their identity and reputation. What is their media presence—newspaper, magazines, online forums, social media?

III. Image Building & Reputation Crisis

What can you find out about their public relations standings?

Have they been involved in positive image campaigns now or in the past?
Have they been involved in any controversies, scandals?
What else can find out about them?

IV. Service, Constituents, & Public Responsibility
Do they have a Board of Directors? Any other Boards?
Are they involved in any charity giving or sponsorship?
Do they have customers or donors?
Can find any information about “corporate responsibility” or a “green” initiative?

V. What do other experts or leaders in the field think about this organization?

VI. Would you want to work there? Why or why not?

Requirements:

1) Provide information that covers every sectionlisted above. However, you do not have to answer everything under each section. Figure out what fits the business or organization you are writing about.

2) Your research must include surface and deep (academic/database) research;your research may include Google, Google Scholar, and the library and itsdatabases. Please review the lessons on library and database research if you are having trouble with your research. Also, use the info-guide and your librarian liaison as resources!

3) APA style citations. Include in-text citations and a reference page. Be sure to double-check Purdue’s OWL pages. (For this project, you do NOT need an abstract or title page.)

4)Word Count: 800-1000.

**Choose a business or organization that interests you! It will make this project much more enjoyable!

Note:Although we are calling this project a “Business Profile,” it is rather a light version of this genre. More depth analysis on business functions are traditionally required for a complete Business Profile. However, this project will serve our purposes for completing research within your field, using a specific genre; this will help you to discover what professionals in your field research as well as discover ways professionals in your field evaluate their peers.
