Between The World And Me

Between The World And Me

As we’ve discussed Coates, we’ve paid close attention to his use of rhetoric. That is, we’ve looked closely at the way that he tells his story and makes his argument, paying special attention to the various tools he’s employed. For this paper, you will produce a close reading of Coates’s text arguing whether he is successful or not in persuading his audience.

How does Coates use ethos, pathos, logos? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the structure of the letter? How does the tone of the text improve or weaken it? What is the intended audience, and how do the various rhetorical qualities help or cause it to suffer?

Keep in mind that the question we’ve been asking is not what Coates is saying but how he is saying it.
