Assessment 10

Assessment 10

Previously, you read all four sections of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and made some judgments about Gawain’s actions based on the events of the poem. Whether you were conscious of it or not, you probably used textual support to help you support these opinions. In this lesson, you will be answering some questions about Gawain and his actions/decisions throughout the poem. You will need sufficient support to make your responses clear, focused, and valid. Be sure to consider all of the elements when forming your responses:

  • What background knowledge do you already have that relates to this question?
  • What facts/information can you pull from the text to support your response?
  • Are there any important quotations from the characters that will support your response directly?

Assignment

You will have two different options for responding to the questions about Gawain and his decisions in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. For Option 1, you will complete the chart that asks you to answer questions about Gawain’s actions in the poem.

Option 1: There are three ways you can find the support you need to make your answers valid, clear, and focused. These three strategies are summed up in the QAR method. This strategy allows you to think about how you are locating the support you are using for your responses. Below are the three types of Question-Answer Relationships:

  • In the Text
  • In My Head
  • In My Head and in the Text
In the Text

Right There: You find the answer Right There in the text (wording in answer is same as that in question).

Think and Search: You find the answer in the text but you have to search for it (wording of answer is different than that in question; answer may be scattered in many different places throughout the text).
