answer questions

After completing the reading and annotating of the above text, respond to the three prompt questions below. Write a clear, organized, and effective paragraph for each prompt. Number your paragraphs 1-3.

1.

Write one LONG, complete paragraph that summarizes the author’s thesis, supporting points, and concluding idea. Remember to start your summary with a topic sentence that includes the title, author, and main idea of the text.

2.

Write one LONG, complete paragraph explaining two or three connections you can make between the text and your life.

*If you need an idea for your connections, you may consider: Are you a gritty college student? In what other areas of your life have you shown perseverance? What are your current goals and what actions are you taking to ensure improvement? When have you failed at something in the short term, but eventually succeeded because you stuck with it?

3.

Write one LONG, complete paragraph explaining an argument you can make about the role of grit in student success. What experiences do you believe help students to become grittier? Your explanation should show an understanding of the text and an ability to add your own opinion to the author’s.

Note 1: Always edit carefully before submitting because your response will serve as an example to the rest of the class!

Note 2: You have the freedom of speech and expression in this course, and I encourage you to speak powerfully. I also urge you to choose your words carefully, be clear with your intended meaning, and be respectful of ideas, cultures, and experiences that may differ from your own.
