annotate the passage
There are two passages I’m looking to have you analyze. In order to program all the steps into Canvas, I’m breaking them up into different question fields. Here are the instructions for what I’m looking to have you do over the next few questions:
In the following examples annotate the passage by identify any argument markers (premise and conclusion), positive/negative evaluative terms, guarding, assuring, or discounting moves. (these may be entire phrases)
Then arrange the argument in standard form. (This may require some reconstruction from conversational implication – try to preserve the meaning of the original utterance while being as clear as possible.)
Be sure to include any significant (i.e. controversial) suppressed premises you feel are appropriate to capturing the argument. Omit anything extraneous to the main argument. Rephrase as needed.
Finally, diagram the argument.
