From the second e-Activity, give your opinion of the fundamental reasons why Lincoln issued the Proclamation, and outline the major reasons why the Proclamation did not apply to all areas of the United States. In your classmate response, speculate on the extent to which Lincoln’s vision of freedom for the freed people aligned with those of black soldiers and philosophers of the day. PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to end the Civil War, preserve the Union and lead them to victory. Besides, the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 was not Lincoln’s first attempt at finding a solution to ending the Civil War. The intention was not to abolish slavery, it was to prevent rebellion. Slave States such as North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Arkansas seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy. The Emancipation Proclamation did not apply to all areas of the United States. It only applied to Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and Missouri, where there was no rebellion. He feared his attempts at ending the war would be viewed as interfering with slavery. He also feared the Union states would join the Confederacy as well.
