assignment 1

Using the information from Chapter 6 of your textbook, create at least six objectives that an employee would be required to meet in order to be trained for the job you currently hold. (If you are not employed at this time, use a past job or a job position that is familiar to you.)

Also, address the following questions within your submission:

  1. What role should objectives play in the design, implementation, and evaluation of HRD programs?
  2. What are the three essential features of an effective HRD program or training program objective?
  3. Why is each one so important?
  4. Discuss training or classroom experiences that you have had where objectives either did or did not follow the recommendations made by Robert Mager and others.

assignment 2

Now it’s time to design the actual training session that you plan on implementing. This is one of the biggest steps in your project. As you work on this step, take advantage of the practical guidelines offered in Chapters 5 and 6 of your textbook. Of special note in Chapter 5: See Figure 5-1 for a “Training and HRD Process Model.” See discussions on “Defining Objectives,” “Preparing a Lesson Plan,” “Training Methods and Media,” and “Preparing Training Materials.” Chapter 6: Skim this chapter for ideas on methods as you prepare your Lesson Plan.

Remember! Focus your training session on the simple training task you chose earlier. Now you know why we suggested a simple task for this exercise, such as answering the phone or using a stapler – there is plenty to prepare for even that simple task!

Be sure to include the following in your design for the training session:

  1. Your list of objectives. (Based on your task analysis data)
  2. How long will the training require?
  3. What type(s) of training materials and media are you planning on using? And why?
  4. Lesson Plan. This is your step-by-step training agenda on how you will implement the program. This includes an outline of exactly how you will present the materials, what information, what skills the employees will sharpen, what they will practice, and the steps you will take to ensure the learners gain knowledge, skills, and abilities in this area.

assignment 3

Re-read Case Study A in Course Materials and do Problem 5, “Safety First.”  Be sure to include your findings from the OSHA web site in your answer.

Problem 5 is reprinted for you here:

Problem 5. Safety First

Discrimina, Inc. recently received a number of correction orders from OSHA. The local Fire Marshall has also warned them that the welding area does not comply with the fire codes. In particular, the stairwell is not up to OSHA or state fire codes. It is an open stairs in the office annex next to the shop. The owner contends that it is not a problem, since it is not even in the same building where welding occurs, but the inspectors all say it is not up to code. Both OSHA and the fire inspector want an entirely new enclosed stairway to be built. They also want a completely fireproof wall between the shop and the office annex. The CEO has heard negative things about OSHA and doubts he needs to follow their recommendations.

Question

Draft a memo to the CEO explaining that OSHA compliance saves lives. Use examples from the OSHA website. http://www.osha.gov. Check out OSHA Saves Lives within the site to illustrate your point.

You are reviewing your monthly budget and determine you have $60.00 to spend on either books or movies each month. (Remember you must have whole numbers, not fractions) The books cost $8.00 and the movies cost $20.00. Put this into equation form.

Complete the following Total Utilities table.

Using the equation created above, solve to locate four points and plot them on a budget constraint line. Create the graph in Excel and paste onto your Word document answering the questions below. Review the tutorial on creating graphs in Week 01 if you run into any problems.

Write a one page response answering the following questions about your graph and tables:

  1. How many books and movies would maximize your level of satisfaction given the budget of $60.00?
  2. Are the charts above consistent with the Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility? Why or Why not?
  3. What is the consumer surplus of purchasing three books?
  4. If you were able to go to the matinee for movies at a price of $10.00 instead, how would this change the amount of books and movies you could purchase?

assignment 5

In prior studies, our focus was on soft skills, which are a key component to success in a job interview and in your future career field. What are “soft skills?” Why are they important in your future career field, and which seem to be prioritized the highest in your future profession? Why do employers value them so highly? Summarize your answers to these questions in 1-2 paragraphs.
