The focus in these readings is on who you are as a writer, how you establish authority, and what your readers will think about you (this is known as ethos, by the way). Any time you write, this is an important issue, but it is especially important when you are trying to be persuasive. Reviews are persuasive pieces. Who you are matters.

Looking at the articles in the reading packet can help you. Think about how the writers there go about establishing their authority. Why do we trust these writers? Or not?

So for the discussion board, you have two tasks:

First, choose one of the articles from the Reading Packet D ( In the file name Packet D ) and analyze one way that the author establishes their credibility. Who is this person? Why do you like (or not like, as the case may be) this writer? Why do you trust their review? Just choose ONE quote to discuss and how that text helps or hinders the author.

Then tell us what you’re writing and researching about and how you will establish authority, both first and second hand. Ask your peers if they have background knowledge on your topic that might help. Ask them if they know of possible sources.

Please choose three of your peers’ postings and respond to them. As you respond to your peers, be sure to respond to both their analysis of the review they read AND to their own ideas for research and review. ( Will send 3 postings later, RESPONSE DUE TIME IS IN 3 DAYS, SUNDAY )
