​Read the two primary source assignments on the Vikings

Read the two primary source assignments on the Vikings, which are the account of how Iceland accepted Christianity, from Njal’s Sage, and the Arabic traveler Ibn Fadlan’s impressions of the Viking Rus in Eastern Europe. Based on your findings from these readings, write a short essay, of 1-2 double-spaced pages, on the subject of what factors influence interactions between different religions. The factors could be such things as culture, power dynamics, convenience, the need for peaceful trade and economic interaction, etc. We have, in these readings, an account of the interactions between Christianity and Viking paganism, on the one hand, and the interactions between Islam and Viking beliefs, on the other hand. What caused these inter-religious interactions to be peaceful or violent? How might the beliefs and biases of each group have affected how they viewed the other groups?
